Student Life Development Conference

December 12, 2019

The Student Life Development Conference will bring  staff together to learn from one another and celebrate our accomplishments and community. Through break out sessions, large group sessions and informal time together, staff will come away with a better knowledge of and connection to the Division of Student Life.

This conference is part of our ongoing commitment to understand our challenges as a Division and work together to develop solutions.

Why a Student Life Conference?

In a word, it's all about culture. For the past several years, WVU employees have been invited to participate in a culture survey which provided input on a number of variables of our employee and institutional culture.  Employees reported a high focus on students, deep sense of pride and a respect for diversity, among other strengths. The results also indicated some areas for improvement. Student Life's May 2019 retreat focused on exploring these areas further and generating ideas for cultural change around four specific areas:
  • Openness and Trust
  • Coaching and Feedback
  • Rewarding High Performance
  • Appreciation and Value
The concept of hosting a conference for Student Life staff grew out of the discussion and feedback from the May retreat. The goal is to engage employees in critical conversations in order to gather input and help inform direction for the Division. The conference is a learning opportunity for all, as staff members present information and facilitate workshops on their areas of expertise. The conference is also an opportunity to recognize the hard work and accomplishments of individuals and units to the success of WVU.

Workshop Evaluation

Your feedback is important! At each workshop session, you will be asked to complete a short form in order to evaluate each workshop you have attended. Forms will be distributed following the session and will be collected by volunteers. If you don't have time to complete the survey at that time, feel free to drop it off at the registration table anytime during the day.

Following the conference, you will also be asked to provide feedback on the event as a whole. You will receive an email containing a link to a survey. Thanks in advance for your feedback.
