Michael Ellington
Since 1993, I have served in significant leadership roles, including the following: Assistant Director of the Mountainlair and, in 1995, as Director of the Mountainlair. In 2004, I was promoted by then-VP Kenneth Gray to Assistant Vice President. In 2011, I was appointed to Associate Vice President for Student Affairs (Life). President Gee appointed me Interim Vice President of Student Life while a search for a permanent successor was launched. I resumed my Associate Vice President duties once a new Vice President was appointed in 2015. After an organizational restructure from Student Life to Dean of Students, I resumed my duties as Director of the Mountainlair.
Mountainlair hosted traffic counts of over 30,000 daily. My personal mission, "to serve as an advocate for students,” bringing focus to an array of campus student services outside the classroom and ensuring these activities support and enrich students' academic lives.
My WVU experiences included oversight of campus-wide Dining Services, Center for Black Culture & Research, and Arts & Entertainment. I have served in leadership capacities on regional, national, and international committees and boards. I spent six years as an Assistant Director for Operations with UMBC (University of Maryland, Baltimore County) prior to returning to WVU in 1993. I served in various capacities within WVU Student Affairs/Life, including Interim VP of the Division. I have been involved with student unions on an international basis as the past chairperson of COMP: an International Committee on Multi-Ethnic Programs for ACUI (Association of College Unions International). My involvement with the Rotary Club of Morgantown provided an opportunity to serve as District Governor for the then District 7530. I am a proud graduate of Leadership West Virginia and a proud alumnus of the Pride of WV. I was active in the Warren United Methodist Choir as Choir Master. I received both my Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from WVU.
